SHAPING PUBLIC SPACE

Venice, Italy | 2018 | Exhibition

2018 Venice Architecture Biennale

Atelier Pagnamenta Torriani invited to "Time Space Existence" International Exhibition.

SPS 2018 is the second iteration of Shaping Public Space Exhibition by Atelier Pagnamenta Torriani.  For the 2018 initiative, Lorenzo Pagnamenta and Anna Torriani, took the SPS research from 2016 one step further.

They resumed the previous discussion from the SPS 2016 findings, raised further reflections and challenged the visitors on how we may bring new ideas to fruition.

The installation is comprised of two video screens, strategically displayed, and creates a space marked by a counter and a long bench. The first video screen displays selected feedback of SPS 2016 Venice, while the second screen shows public clients reflecting on how our public spaces impact everyday life in underserved NYC communities. We engaged the senses of the visitors: vision, hearing, touch, smell and taste, while offering a moment of respite and reflection.

The new set of questions are:

  • How does Memory influence your perception of urban public space?

  • How can urban space instill a sense of Belonging?

  • What is the seduction of Virtual public space versus Physical?

Like the common thread of our projects, SPS brings people together, encouraging communication and exchange towards a better understanding of each other, furthering the discussion of the role and the future of public space and architecture.
