The South Bronx is a previously industrial neighborhood bordered by the Bruckner Expressway.
APT designed the library for The South Bronx Academy for Applied Media, a middle school located in a 1974 school building in the Bronx, New York.
To make a space suitable for the needs of students, various spaces and rooms were required to create this large school library.
APT manipulated the ceilings heights and used colors and lighting patterns to produce several areas within the space. We custom designed colorful computer tables to establish a special IT area and used a glazed wall technique to provide privacy for the teacher meeting room and librarian office.
Local craftsmen built the custom wood furniture and the variegated ceilings.
The library’s materials and technologies, the ergonomic furniture, and the ceiling with LED lighting respond to the latest environmental and health requirements developed with the client.
