The Curtis Estabrook School was constructed in 1957 and is located in the Canarsie neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The existing library, which serves more than 300 students from Kindergarten to 5th Grade, no longer met their evolving needs as it was configured for a more traditional approach to learning and lacked the infrastructure and flexibility to support multimedia, technology and collaborative learning.
Atelier Pagnamenta Torriani redesigned the room entirely, adding a dedicated green screen recording area for multimedia projects, lounge seating, space for a new IT-enabled interactive whiteboard, a custom built cozy reading nook, new shelving to better organize and showcase the library’s collection and a ceiling designed with lights dotted throughout to add a sense of wonder and imagination to the space. Together, these additions support an immersive, multifunctional learning environment. LED lighting respond to the latest environmental and health requirements developed with the client.
