The role of the United Nations Capital Master Plan Advisory Board, as mandated by the General Assembly, is to advise the Secretary-General regarding the review and consideration of all aspects of the restoration and renovation of the complex’s historic buildings.

As the Western Region representative, Anna Torriani strived to preserve the original spirit of the design concept that inspired the 1947 International Board of Design, which included the renowned Swiss-French architect LeCorbusier. Other distinguished members of this board were Oscar Niemeyer of Brazil, Sven Markelius of Sweden, Howard Robertson of Great Britain, and Chairman of the Board and Director of Planning Wallace Harrison of the United States.
