APT AND ETH AT THE VENICE BIENNALE 2016

Lino Guzzella, President of the ETH Zürich, was visiting the many ETH contributions to the International Architecture Exhibition in Venice.

While in Palazzo Mora, he viewed the SPS pavilion and video on the second floor.

In the same palazzo, just one floor below, Prof. Dirk Hebel and his research group explained the exhibit “Daring Growth” about alternative building materials.

At the Corderie dell’Arsenale, Prof. Philippe Block of the Block Research Group presented “Beyond Bending”, an impressive and beautiful unreinforced limestone vault, 5 cm thick.

The last photograph was taken below the “Droneport”, a prototype for drone terminals in Rwanda, engineered by Block Research Group and ODB Engineering for Norman Foster.

A few other notable ETH contributions include: “Incidental Space”: the Swiss Pavilion by Prof. Christian Kerez; “Informal Settlements in Cairo” by Prof. Marc Angélil and “Sarajevo Now by Prof. Hubert Klumpner and Prof. Alfredo Brillembourg.
