This school’s hometown contains one of America’s first planned communities, Sunnyside Gardens.

 

The auditorium is located in a 1950 school building, specifically PS 199 Maurice  A. Fitzgerald, located east of Manhattan in Sunnyside, Queens.

 

Lighting and acoustics were a challenge for the space, and the studio was commissioned to solve the issue and upgrade the stage.

 

Their design for the auditorium’s renovation comprises a new ceiling with special round lighting, new acoustic treatment, new flooring and a new stage area with state-of-the-art audiovisual system and stage lighting.

 

The auditorium’s round light fixtures and acoustic panels of similar size create a playful polka-dot pattern while balancing sound absorption and reflection in the space.

 

The project was designed to strict sustainable guidelines, with efficient lighting and low VOC for all finish.
